Troops from the 9th High Mountain Battalion of the Ninth Brigade of the National Army responded to the call for help from the community in the Cristo Rey area, Guayabal inspection, rural area of San Vicente del Caguán, where a 9-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after stepping on an antipersonnel mine.
This tragic incident, which occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. yesterday, adds to the numerous cases of human rights violations and international humanitarian law in this region, allegedly perpetrated by organized armed groups operating in the area.

Given the seriousness of the situation, the National Army immediately deployed a medical unit with the support of the Aviation Mobility and Maneuver Battalion No. 5, managing to evacuate the minor by air. Unfortunately, the girl suffered the amputation of her right leg as a result of the explosion.After her evacuation, the minor was rushed to the Neiva University Hospital, where she is receiving specialized medical care.
Rejection of violence
The Ninth Brigade of the National Army strongly condemned this type of act, in which children and adolescents, who enjoy special constitutional protection, become victims of the indiscriminate violence of armed groups. These acts constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and an attack on the dignity and rights of minors.

The National Army has announced that it will proceed to file a complaint with the relevant authorities, in order to investigate and punish those responsible for this atrocious act.
