In a recent article for Newsweek, Lee Zeldin, a former Republican member of the US House of Representatives, expressed serious concerns about Kamala Harris’ policies. Zeldin argues that her actions as a Democratic presidential candidate pose a threat to both the US Jewish community and Israel.
Zeldin believes that the Democratic Party is failing to address the rise of anti-Semitism within its ranks, which is reaching dangerous levels. He argues that Kamala Harris, rather than actively confronting these manifestations, is encouraging those who are hostile to Jews through her actions. Zeldin notes that Harris could make her position clear by refusing to support those who sympathize with radical movements such as Hamas. However, he says her decisions make Jewish voters feel unsafe under a Democratic government.
In particular, Zeldin mentioned that during an important speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the US Congress, Kamala Harris chose to visit a student society and then, despite a personal meeting with Netanyahu, called on Israel to accept the ceasefire proposal, despite its shortcomings and threats. Zeldin emphasized that such a proposal did not guarantee the destruction of Hamas, weakened Israel’s position in the region and did not ensure the return of all hostages, including American citizens.
The politician also drew attention to Harris’s refusal to nominate Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania and a follower of Judaism, for vice president. Zeldin noted that, according to analysts, this choice was made in favor of the more left-wing candidate Tim Walz, which confirms Harris’s tendency to support radical circles that are openly hostile to the Jewish community.
Zeldin also weighed in on Harris’s foreign threat policies, noting that the vice president has supported the Biden administration’s move to send billions of dollars to Iran, which Zeldin believes has only served to strengthen the country’s position as the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism. At the same time, he stressed that American Jews, both at home and abroad, face growing threats that the current administration is unable or unwilling to adequately address.
Zeldin urged American Jews to think about security, which he believes is under threat from the current White House. He believes it is important in the upcoming elections to support leaders like Donald Trump and J.D. Vance who can restore a sense of security to the country and strengthen the alliance between the United States and Israel.
