The shortage of skilled workers in Germany is easing to some extent, according to companies operating in the country. This is according to a study by the German economic institute “Ifo”, received by BTA’s editorial mail.
Against this background, 33.8 percent of the companies surveyed in August stated that they managed to attract “too few” qualified workers and employees, while in a survey conducted in April, more companies – 34.9 percent – reported a similar problem.
“The slowdown of the economy (of Germany – note ed.) is one of the factors limiting the demand for qualified workers,” points out Klaus Vollrabe, director of the research department at Ifo.
“Against the backdrop of demographic changes, this problem (related to the shortage of qualified workers and employees)” will deepen again, Volrabe adds.
The most affected by the shortage of skilled labor are companies from the service sector (39.7 percent). Among them, particularly serious problems are experienced by recruitment agencies. About 70 percent of them report that they fail to hire enough qualified employees. The situation is similar with both legal and accounting firms.
Almost two-thirds of logistics companies are unable to find the workers they need.
About a quarter of industrial companies in Germany face a similar problem. A shortage of qualified workers and employees is experienced by just under 30 percent of automotive concerns, as well as just over 25 percent of companies in the trade and construction sector.
