On the 26th, the Democratic Party of Korea decided to form a ‘Special Committee for Investigating the Truth about Dokdo Erasure’ and a ‘Special Committee for Medical Disaster’ to respond to the government’s behavior of erasing Dokdo and to prepare measures for the medical disaster.
Cho Seung-rae, the Democratic Party’s senior spokesperson, met with reporters after the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly this morning and made the announcement. Rep. Kim Byung-joo was appointed as the chairman of the Dokdo Special Committee, and Rep. Park Joo-min was appointed as the chairman of the Medical Disaster Special Committee.
Spokesperson Cho said, “While party leader Lee Jae-myung was hospitalized, he communicated with party officials and exchanged opinions, and as a result, they decided to form a special committee,” and explained, “We see the erasure of Dokdo, which is being carried out along with pro-Japanese ideology, as a very serious issue that cannot be overlooked.”
Supreme Council member Kim Min-seok also emphasized at the Supreme Council meeting that day, “This is a national issue so serious and urgent that Representative Lee can issue a hospital order,” and “The Prohibition of Collaborating with Japanese Public Officials Act that the Democratic Party is preparing will also include disciplinary measures against heads of pro-Japanese, traitorous public institutions who participated in or condoned the erasure of Dokdo in any way.”
At the Supreme Council meeting held that day, floor leader Park Chan-dae said, “Any act that condones or tolerates selling out sovereignty, territory, and the people is an anti-state act, and the forces that commit such acts are anti-state forces,” and urged, “President Yoon Seok-yeol and the government should cease all actions that could be mistaken for anti-state forces.”
Spokesperson Cho said about the special committee on medical disaster, “The medical situation is really serious,” and “There was the recent story of former People Power Party emergency response committee chairman Kim Jong-in (who was turned away from the emergency room), but aside from that issue, the local emergency medical system has already collapsed.”
He expressed concern, saying, “The emergency medical system has collapsed with all the residents leaving,” and “When an emergency patient occurs, 119 must be dispatched and the patient must be transferred to the emergency room, but there is no place to go, so we have to keep making contact and going around. This is a very serious situation.”
He continued, “In this situation, isn’t the fact that COVID-19 is spreading increasing the people’s concerns? However, the government is being very irresponsible,” and emphasized, “We will diagnose the current situation and think about how to deal with this problem and come up with countermeasures.”
Spokesperson Cho said regarding Representative Lee’s hospital bed instructions, “Seeing the medical staff’s grievances at the hospital, I feel like the seriousness of the situation is even more apparent,” and “We took this measure after considering the serious situation in which the public’s discomfort and anxiety are growing exponentially due to the lack of medical staff.”
