A text message is circulating that aims to deceive customers of Banco Itaú, warning of a supposed blockage on their account.

The text states: “Itaú: we detected a suspicious attempt to recover your password and we have blocked it,” suggesting to click on a link “for more information about this incident.” Despite its similarity, the link included in the message does not lead to the bank’s actual website.

In reality, it is a fake message designed to deceive users into providing their account information.

“It’s fake! Do not click on the link,” the bank indicated through its official accounts, adding that Itaú “never requests personal data in its communications.”

In response to this warning, other users reported receiving similar messages with variations. “We have blocked a password change attempt on your account,” states another of the deceptive messages.

This is a traditional method used to deceive someone online, known as phishing: pretending to be a person, company, or service, so that the user takes an action that the scammer expects (such as clicking on a link, filling out a form, or downloading a file).
