Although the first thing Apple will present this September will be the iPhone 16 or the Apple Watch Series X, a fall full of news is expected. The Mac line is set to incorporate the M4 chip after its announcement alongside the iPad Pro. A super powerful processor even more prepared for Apple Intelligence. According to all rumors, the first Macs with the M4 chip will arrive in less than two months, and the best part is that Apple will fulfill one of the requests that users have made the most in recent years.
All Macs with the M4 chip will have 16 GB of RAM
So far, the most basic models of MacBook Air, Mac mini, or iMac come with 8 GB of RAM. A debate that has intensified with the arrival of AI and its need for more resources at its disposal. Apple Intelligence is compatible with Macs that have the M1 chip or later, as all of them have 8 GB of RAM. In fact, Apple continues to defend that this amount of memory is sufficient.
However, the latest report from leaker Mark Gurman states that all Mac models that arrive this year will come with a minimum of 16 GB. This will include the new Mac mini, which will have a complete redesign, and also the MacBook Air, primarily the big beneficiaries.
The last time Apple increased the base RAM was in 2016, going from 4 GB to the 8 GB we currently have. According to Gurman, all M4s have 16 or 32 GB of RAM, so the more advanced models will deliver more power and be better prepared for the future without having to increase the Mac’s budget by more than two hundred euros.
Different GPU models and a spaced-out launch schedule
Mark Gurman also mentions that the most basic Macs will have an eight-core CPU and GPU. This is surprising given that the iPad Pro has a 9-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. However, the M4 chip in the higher-end models will reach ten cores, similar to the iPad Pro.
CPU | GPU | RAM | Launch | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Mac mini | 8 cores | 8 cores | 16 GB | October 2024 |
iMac | 8 cores | 8 cores | 16 GB | October 2024 |
MacBook Pro | 10 cores | 10 cores | 16 GB | October 2024 |
MacBook Air | 8 cores | 8 cores | 16 GB | Spring 2025 |
Mac Studio | 16 cores | 32 cores | 32 GB | Summer 2025 |
Mac Pro | 32 cores | 64 cores | 64 GB | Summer 2025 |
Regarding the launch, Apple will incorporate the M4 chip throughout the Mac lineup, although it will take about six months to complete the entire update. It will start this October with the Mac mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro. Next, the MacBook Air will follow in spring and conclude with the Mac Studio and Mac Pro in summer.
A significant leap in power plus a historic increase in base RAM, arriving with a minimum of 16 GB. With this, plus all the possibilities of Apple Intelligence, this generation of Macs will be one of the most interesting in recent years.
