/ Namibian President Hage Geingob died on Sunday, days after returning from a medical trip to the United States.
Namibian President Hage Geingob returned from the United States on January 31, after undergoing a new round of treatment for cancer, and was transferred directly to a hospital in Windhoek.
In a statement issued by the Namibian presidency a few days ago, it confirmed that the president will complete his treatment trip in the country, and that his presidential powers and duties will be delegated to the vice president, the prime minister and the deputy prime minister.
However, days after that mandate, the Namibian presidency announced today, Sunday, the death of President Hage Geingob at the age of 83.
In 2014, while serving as prime minister, Geingob announced that he had recovered from prostate cancer. He became president the following year.
Namibia is scheduled to hold presidential and parliamentary elections at the end of the year.
According to the official website of the Namibian presidency, President Hage Geingob, who assumed office on March 21, 2015, was born on August 3, 1941, noting that he is the third and current president of Namibia.
Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 21 March 1990 to 28 August 2002, and served as Prime Minister again, from 4 December 2012 to 21 March 2015.
Between 2008 and 2012, Geingob served as Minister of Trade and Industry, and as a football fan, the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium in Windhoek is named after him.
