“From September 2, all private Electricity and Gas customers of TotalEnergies in France will benefit from a price ceiling of 1.94 euros / liter instead of 1.99 euros / liter for all fuels at the stations,” TotalEnergies announced is released this tuesday
The decision will not immediately affect the purchasing power of many consumers: the average price of a liter of diesel in France is 1.63 euros and of a liter of Super unleaded 95 is 1.78 euros as of August 23 .
But the prices vary depending on the service station. On August 26, around a third of the group’s stations showed prices higher than 1.94 euros per liter, especially in rural areas and on the highways, where fuel supply prices are higher for items utility and service purposes, according to TotalEnergies.
Above all, prices may rise and affect more stations, due to the volatility of oil prices, which have risen significantly in recent weeks, mainly due to geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East Threatening supplies to the area.

This level of lowering the ceiling was mentioned by team boss Patrick Pouyanné at the beginning of July, during the Aix-en-Provence Business Conferences. He then spoke of “rising anger” related to energy costs, against the backdrop of the rise of the right wing, between two rounds of legislative elections.
To benefit from this measure, customers simply need to show their TotalEnergies loyalty card (Club card) “and the ceiling of 1.94 euros / liter will be applied immediately to their collection,” TotalEnergies indicated.
The group also stated that it will maintain its ceiling price of 1.99 euros for all other customers of its service stations, in all its stations and “maybe even beyond”. The group has not provided a figure on the possible cost of this measure, implemented for the first time in 2023, when costs are very high. TotalEnergies currently has 4 million individual customers for gas or electricity.
