CNT manager Roberto Kury said in the Assembly that they have asked the Ministry of Finance to analyze the possibility of raising the budget ceiling for the collective agreement.

On July 19, 2024, the manager of the National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT), Roberto Kury, said before the Assembly’s Transparency Commission that the company has not implemented all the benefits of the third collective agreement because that would have a negative impact on the financial results of the public company.

“As a measure, we are coordinating with the Ministry of Finance to evaluate the possibility of raising the budget ceiling for this expenditure. However, due to an impact on the results, this has not been possible for the moment,” Kury told legislators.

The third collective agreement between the CNT and the Companies Committee, approved in January 2024, includes benefits such as subsidies and medical assistance services, transportation and daily meals, discount cards in supermarkets, dental services and a life insurance policy with coverage inside and outside Ecuador.

Additionally, the Manager explained, one of the main benefits is job stability for four years. In the event that a worker is dismissed from his position, he would receive compensation of up to 48 times his salary. The contract benefits more than 5,600 CNT workers.

The third revision of the contract began to be negotiated between the company and the workers’ union in August 2023, but no agreement was reached, Kury recalled.

Then, in November 2023, the Conciliation and Arbitration Court of the Ministry of Labor, by majority, issued a favorable ruling for the collective agreement, which came into force in January 2024.

Kury assured that the public company will comply with the regulations on collective contracts, which are included in Ministerial Agreement 080 of the Ministry of Labor, dated June 11, 2024.
