If you consume a substantial amount of carbohydrates, you can drink beer with it; that has no negative effect on your glycogen recovery. The sugars from your beer will then be used to replenish that glycogen supply, but there are far too few nutrients to get it back to normal. Meanwhile, your body thinks ‘the supply is being replenished, this is fine,’ but that’s insufficient to get everything back under control.
