According to CNN, a coding error allowed about 300 lucky people to purchase them on the airline’s website for just $3,400 (about €3,000) before the error was fixed.
“Unfortunately, this is a case where the price really was too good to be true,” Qantas said in a statement on Thursday.
Qantas said it would rebook business class tickets for customers at no extra cost “as a goodwill gesture”. Also, passengers who are not satisfied with business class can get a full refund.
It is estimated that a Qantas Business Class flight from Australia to the United States typically costs around $11,000 (around €9,900).
This is not the first time such a mistake has occurred. Last year, the company sold tickets for more than 8,000 flights that it had already cancelled.
Qantas made the decision after a similar error was handled differently by the airline last year. More than 86,000 passengers were affected as a result.
