Fifteen athletes from all over Italy will form the list of those called up from which the team will be selected that, in the last weekend of September, will go to London to try to win the second title again. WBSC Blind Baseball International Cupalready conquered by the Azzurri in 2022.
The meeting, led by the manager Mark Corazza and his coaches (Admired, By Julius, Lanzarini e Volo) , will serve to verify the athletic condition of the players through on-field tests and to build team spirit, essential to best face a world competition.
This gathering is part of a larger and more ambitious project in view of a very delicate Olympic four-year period for the discipline of Blind Baseball which hopes for Paralympic recognition and consequent participation in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
All the athletes responded with great enthusiasm and determination to the call and declared themselves ready to give their best to earn a place in the national team. Wearing the Italian jersey is, after all, the key goal of every athlete’s career.
At the end of the meeting, manager Corazza will announce the names of those called up for the London tournament.
During the three days in Rome, the doctor also Judith Carrettia kinesiologist specializing in preventive and adapted motor activities, a research fellow at the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine of the University of Florence, will administer validated tests with an innovative tool to assess injury risk and will conduct circuits of total body and sport-specific exercises that the athletes will perform during the month that separates them from the world championship, in order to maintain and improve their athletic condition.
This intervention/collaboration is the result of an investment made by AIBXC for research purposes for the current year, to underline the intent to scientifically demonstrate the value not only social but also athletic-performance of this sporting discipline and the importance of permanently integrating specialized professional figures within the technical staff. So, while waiting to cheer for them during the “world cup”, good work to the technicians and athletes of our National team!
