Writer M Mukundan said that only the upper class of Malayalees watch movies on OTT. Mukundan was talking about his new film ‘Autorickshaw Driver’, for which he has written the story, screenplay and dialogues for the first time. With the release of OTT, the movie will be seen all over the world within hours. But there are no ordinary people in that audience. Cinema theater is a part of our culture. Autorickshaw drivers, cooks and blacksmiths are just some of the common people who watch movies in the theater. They not only want to see a movie, they want to go to the theater with their family, they’ll be pushing and shoving in the theater, they’m going out for a break, they’ll have a ticket, they’ll have a lot of fun. They really enjoy it all. There are no such possibilities in OTT.
I like watching movies in theaters. It would be great if it came to OTT after its theatrical release. I think it’s a must see movie and on the big screen in the theater. M. Mukundan said. The audience who sees the film critically is only Malayalees. Audiences do not view the film critically in any other language. Either good or bad is their position. But Malayalees approach the film with a critical mind. Similarly, Malayalees are interested in making social issues into films. M Mukundan said that many films have been very successful because of their themes on social issues. ‘Autorickshaw Driver’s Wife’, which I wrote the story and screenplay for, is a very socially relevant film. The theme of the film is women empowerment. The autorickshaw driver’s wife is directed by renowned director Harikumar and produced by KV Abdul Nasser under the banner of Benz Productions. The theme of the film is a short story that appeared in Mathrubhumi Weekly in 2016. M Mukundan said that the film is a development of that story.
