Key Insights on Taro Kono’s Candidacy: A Discussion with Tomoaki Ogura on ‘Kunimaru Shokudo’

by time news

On August 28, the radio program “Kuni Maru Shokudo,” hosted by announcer Kunimaru, featured free announcer Tomoaki Okura. He commented on Taro Kono, who announced his candidacy for the Liberal Democratic Party’s presidential election.

Kunimaru: “Regarding the LDP presidential election, Kono Taro is saying he will run. What do you think about him?”

Okura: “Kono is quite popular, isn’t he? However, he doesn’t have much popularity among the lawmakers. He’s a member of the Aso faction, right? Yesterday, there was a meeting of the Aso faction, and Taro Aso said, ‘Since we’ve shared the same pot of rice, let’s support Kono.’ But when it comes to the runoff vote, whether the Aso faction will solidify their votes is uncertain, as Aso mentioned, ‘Ultimately, vote for the candidate you want to support.'”

Kunimaru: “That’s weak, isn’t it? (laughs)”

Okura: “Aso doesn’t really like Kono that much. But the Aso faction wants their own posts, so they will rally during the runoff vote. They think about which candidate will benefit them. Who will look better on the cover of the LDP in the upcoming House of Representatives election? It’s fascinating, isn’t it? They aren’t really thinking about the public.”

Kunimaru: “Does Kono have any policies about how he wants this country to be?”

Okura: “He does have policies. However, sometimes he jumps the gun. There are times when he doesn’t listen to others and then has to cover his back later.”

Kunimaru: “What about Shinjiro Koizumi?”

Okura: “That’s hard to say. He is humble and has a gentlemanly demeanor. However, I’m not really sure about what he’s thinking; I lack understanding. With his youth, it remains to be seen how other lawmakers can keep up with him. But as a face of the LDP, he is the best choice.”
