All departments, organizations and institutions under the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives are working to ensure civic amenities in the flood-affected areas.

The Department of Local Government Engineering is making efforts to prepare shelters, maintain road connectivity across the country, and expedite the repair of damaged roads. Directorate of Public Health Engineering is working to ensure supply of clean water and sanitation system in flood affected areas.

According to information available till Tuesday (August 27), 36 lakh 46 thousand water purification tablets have been distributed from local government departments in 11 flood-affected districts. 22 thousand 545 jerrycans were distributed and 3 thousand 766 were distributed with the help of UNICEF.

According to the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), 6,542 km of roads and 1,666 bridge-culverts have been primarily affected by the recent heavy rains and landslides. So far 34 km of roads and 69 bridge-culverts have been repaired by LGED.

Dry food has been distributed to 76 thousand 575 people in flood affected areas through various local government institutions under the local government department. 1 lakh 76 thousand 538 people have been rescued and 1 lakh 32 thousand 875 people have been distributed food in shelters. In addition, Public Health Engineering Directorate has distributed 1 lakh 18 thousand 753 liters of safe food through 8 (Feni 5, Moulvibazar 1, Noakhali 1, and Comilla 1) mobile water treatment plants across the country.
