“The Moroccan Paralympic delegation, all sports disciplines combined, begins these games with confidence and high morale, in a climate of symbiosis and enthusiasm, with the hope of achieving better scores,” Mr. Benmoussa said in a statement to MAP.
The qualification of the 38 Moroccan para athletes for these Games is the result of sustained efforts deployed by sports federations and technical departments, without forgetting the support of the sports department to bring together optimal conditions and promote the good preparation of athletes, added Mr. Benmoussa.
The minister, who went to the Paralympic Village in the Paris region to inquire about the conditions for the installation of the Moroccan team, recalled the distinguished results achieved by Morocco during the Tokyo Games, with eleven medals, calling on the para athletes to raise the national flag high during the Paris Games.
Mr. Benmoussa specified that the Moroccan Paralympic delegation was welcomed in good conditions and that the organizers provided all the facilities and structures necessary for training.
Morocco is taking part in this 17th edition of the Paralympic Games with a delegation of 38 athletes (24 men and 14 women) in the athletics (motor and visual impairment), wheelchair tennis, para powerlifting, para taekwondo, para road cycling and blind football events.
The Kingdom has won a total of 38 medals in its Paralympic Games since 1988 in Seoul, including 16 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze. Para athletics took the lion’s share of the medal haul, with 34 medals.
