With an “A” rating, Mr. Jouahri is the only central banker from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to appear in the top 10 of this ranking titled “Central Banker Report Cards 2024”.
Published annually by Global Finance since 1994, the Central Banker Report Cards assess the central bank governors of nearly 100 key countries, territories and districts, as well as the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of West African States.
In a statement, Global Finance publisher and editorial director Joseph Giarraputo said central banks have “waged the war on inflation in recent years, using interest rate hikes as their primary weapon.”
Today, he continued, countries around the world are seeing tangible results of these efforts, with inflation having fallen significantly.
Global Finance’s annual central bank reports honor bank governors “whose strategies have outperformed those of their peers through originality, creativity and tenacity,” Giarraputo said.
Global Finance’s ratings are graded on an “A” to “F” scale, and take into account performance in inflation control, economic growth targets, monetary stability and interest rate management. “A” represents excellent performance and “F” represents a complete failure, the magazine said.
Besides Mr Jouahri, the other central bankers who received an “A” grade are Roberto Campos Neto (Brazil), Rosanna Costa (Chile), Harvesh Kumar Seegolam (Mauritius), Lesetja Kganyago (South Africa), Nandalal Weerasinghe (Sri Lanka), and Nguyen Thi Hong (Vietnam).
