The participants in this conference, initiated jointly by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones and Argan Trees (ANDZOA), pleaded, at the end of their work, for the identification and evaluation of changes undergone by soils, resulting from human and natural activities, and the effects of these changes on humans and the environment, particularly in the context of climate change.

In their final recommendations, the experts who took part in this meeting held on the sidelines of the 36th Session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme, also called for prioritizing areas of intervention in order to improve soil rehabilitation and ensure sustainable development, with an emphasis on water, biodiversity and landscape management.

They called for addressing key knowledge gaps on soil health, calling for identifying areas of cooperation and partnership to launch potential pilot projects to establish this new Soil, Biodiversity, Landscape and Water Management Nexus concept.

Furthermore, they supported the involvement of stakeholders in capacity building in sustainable land use, calling for the development of flagship projects that leverage best practices.
