At an abbreviated hearing in Quito, the judge accepted the request of the Prosecutor’s Office and sentenced Christian Gabriel Sánchez to 40 months in prison. He is the fourth person sentenced in this process.

The hearings for the abbreviated procedure in the Metastasis case continued on July 22, with the proceedings against the former official of the Provincial Court of Guayas, Christian Gabriel Sánchez.

After hearing the arguments of the prosecution, the judge in charge of the case sentenced Sánchez to 40 months in prison for the crime of organized crime.

In the Metástasis case, a corruption plot entrenched in the judicial and political power is being investigated, and it is revealed by the chats found on the cell phone of the deceased drug trafficker Leandro Norero.

According to what the Prosecutor’s Office was able to prove, the now convicted man, Christian Sánchez, served as secretary of the penal unit in Guayas, and worked with another of the defendants in the case, Judge Ronald G.

Sánchez’s ‘function’ was to inform Norero about everything that was happening in the Judiciary regarding his legal cases, including requests from the Prosecutor’s Office and dates of hearings.

“He was in charge of coordinating and presenting arraignments, together with the lawyer Xavier N., in view of the hearing to review measures in a money laundering case,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.

An expert report determined that Sánchez received around USD 8,000 for one of his “actions”, money whose origin he was unable to justify.

As part of the Metástasis case, there are already three other defendants sentenced, such as Helive Angulo, alias ‘Estimado’, who agreed to pay USD 10,000 to the former president of the Judiciary, Wilman Terán.

The other two convicted are former police officers Neycer Lenin MS, and Gabriel Genaro GC
