Christos Zafeiris delivered an impressive performance against Lille, which was not enough to secure Slavia Prague the coveted ticket to the League Stage of the Champions League.
It was a special evening for Christos Zafeiris on Wednesday night (28/08) at the “Eden Arena” in Prague. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who recently decided to wear the jersey of the Greek National Team to support the blue-white in their quest for qualification for the World Cup, was the absolute protagonist for Slavia Prague in their 2-1 victory over Lille.
A victory that was not enough to give the Czechs qualification to the League Stage of the Champions League, as they had lost the first match 2-0. However, it was enough to reintroduce the Greek midfielder in an impressive manner, delivering a career-defining performance.
Zafeiris scored a wonderful goal in the 5th minute of the match, and he also hit the woodwork twice, one of which was from a direct free kick.
Overall, as can be seen from his numbers, the 21-year-old midfielder was the MVP of his team, confirming what has been said and written about him. Zafeiris had 44 ball actions, 14/21 passes, 1 key pass, 3 shots, and won 5/8 duels.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is considered a great talent, with seven goals and eight assists in 64 appearances in all competitions with Slavia Prague, where he has been playing since January 2023.
What is certain is that with these performances, it won’t be long before he is heard strongly for a team in the Top 5 leagues in Europe. It is worth noting that his contract runs until the summer of 2027, and Slavia acquired him for 2.6 million euros from Haugesund.
