The Andorran government wants to protect its natural environment and is studying to achieve this by implementing a new tax. If approved, driving on its roads will be more expensive, only for foreign cars. The idea is to implement a fee for the use of Andorra’s road network for visitors from abroad, the amount of which will vary depending on whether they visit the Principality in high or low season.
The measure, which is still in the study phase, is supported by the Swiss model, which also imposes a specific tax on foreign vehicles that travel on its roads. In the Alpine country, cars are required to have a payment sticker (called a vignette) stuck on the car’s windshield and which must be paid before using its roads. Its price is around 40 Swiss francs (about 42 euros) and you can buy it at customs, post offices, gas stations and online.
The government of Andorra is considering such a solution in favor of sustainable mobility and to combat the crisis that the microstate is suffering chronically due to tourism. At this time, the possibility of charging a fee to all foreign vehicles (including employees who cross the Government border daily) but different amounts and the duration of the fee are also considered to be paid widely for days, weeks, months or even a whole year.
