New Delhi : A Joint Technical Committee is being formed to investigate the case of the fall of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. The Indian Navy issued a statement saying that this Joint Technical Committee will be headed by the Indian Navy and it will include the Maharashtra government as well as technical experts. The statue fell due to abnormal weather conditions and now this Joint Technical Committee will work to investigate its damage.

The statue was unveiled during the first ceremony held in Sindhudurg to commemorate Navy Day on 4 December 2023. The ceremony was aimed at honoring the Maratha Navy and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for their historic role in maritime defense and security, and linking it to the modern Indian Navy. The project was conceived by the Indian Navy and received financial assistance from the state government.
