Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the festival “attracted more than 2,500,000 festival-goers from Morocco and abroad to celebrate music and attend performances by more than 200 artists in Rabat and Salé,” said the Maroc Cultures Association, which organizes the event, in a statement.
“This record attendance confirms the exceptional international popularity of Mawazine and its status as one of the most popular music festivals in the world. Mawazine’s model, open to all, free, unifying and a bearer of values, has once again been praised,” the press release underlines.
From June 20 to 29, 2024, Mawazine was the scene of extraordinary performances by artists from all over the world, testifying to the exceptional enthusiasm they arouse among the Moroccan public, notes the same source which reports massive media coverage, through the presence of more than 800 journalists and an average of more than 2,000 reports per month, which “testifies to the importance of the Mawazine festival as a major artistic event on the media scene”.
Maroc Cultures also notes the enthusiasm on social networks, reflected in Mawazine’s top trending positioning in searches carried out, which “highlighted the festival’s global impact, strengthening its reputation and consolidating its influence throughout the world”, while the presence of international influencers “confirmed the festival’s appeal for content creators wishing to highlight the event while taking advantage of the enthusiasm it generates”.
The 19th edition of Mawazine was also marked by a strengthened partnership, through Spotify, as well as Tripadvisor, amplifying the global reach of the festival and offering a platform for Moroccan talents to shine internationally, according to the same source.
During this edition, the moments of sharing between stars and festival-goers were particularly intense, marked by highlights such as the masterful feat of Metro Booming, the electrifying show of ATEEZ, the resplendent performance of Central Cee in traditional Moroccan Jellaba, the flow of Burna Boy, the communion of Camila Cabello with her audience, and the catchy rhythms of Calvin Harris at the OLM Souissi.
The Mohammed V National Theater was a place of meeting and diversity through the technological Hologram show of Oum Kalthoum which amazed the audience, the exceptional performance of Samira Said, as well as renowned artists such as Carole Samaha, Marwan Khoury, Badr Rami, Gregory Porter and Yuri Buenaventura who captivated their audience transforming the Theater into a huge dance and singing hall.
The Nahda stage was not left out; between the committed words of rapper Balti, the tears of joy and emotion of Haifa Wehbe upon discovering her Moroccan audience, the presence of Balqees who forged an unbreakable bond with his spectators during his interpretation of several emblematic titles of Moroccan song including “Ya Bladi”, the wild rhythms of Ahmed Saad and Mohamed Ramadan, and the apotheosis shows of Douzi and Aminux.
Moroccan artists such as Najat Aatabou, Saida Charaf, Zina Daoudia, Fatima Tabaamrant, Muslim, Said Senhaji, Abdelaziz Stati, Hamid Kassri and Mocci shone in Salé, demonstrating the richness and diversity of the national scene to the enthusiastic cheers of their fans, enchanted in an atmosphere of communion.
At Bouregreg, a diversity of world rhythms was celebrated with the participation of emblematic figures such as OMAH LAY, James BKS, Nana Benz from Togo, Fatoumata Diawara, and Angélique Kidjo. Artists La fève, Didi B, Luidji, Yamé, Ayra Starr and Too Fan went to meet their Moroccan audience who were sometimes invited on stage to perform alongside their favorite artists.
