Strong thunderstorms and powerful gusts of wind covered a large part of Greece, affecting the region of Attica and the capital Athens this afternoon, Kathimerini reports.
The storms moved from northern Attica to central Athens, with hail reported in parts of the Greek capital and power outages in the northern suburbs.
The fire service reported four fires caused by severe thunderstorms that hit the island of Evia (Euboea) in central Greece this morning.
The National Meteorological Service issued an emergency bulletin in which it warned of cold, unstable air masses that will remain over Greece on Saturday, bringing rain, thunderstorms, frequent lightning, and in some places – hail and strong winds, writes BTA.
Storms are expected in the Sporades Islands, Evia and possibly Thessaly area tomorrow morning, and the Peloponnese peninsula, Central Greece (including Attica), Epirus and Macedonia areas are expected to be affected in the afternoon.
