Inspector General Abdul Karim Claims Demonstration Security is in Accordance with SOP, Kompolnas Asks Police to Conduct Evaluation

jpnn.com – Head of the Propam Division (Kadiv) of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Abdul Karim, claimed that the police’s security measures for demonstrations against the revision of the Regional Election Law and the monitoring of the Constitutional Court’s decision were in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).

Inspector General Abdul explained that since the beginning of the demonstration, his party had intervened to provide assistance regarding efforts to secure the demonstration.

“Since the beginning of the demonstration, we have ordered members of the Propam National Police Headquarters to go down to the area to provide supervision and assistance to the regional police in securing the demonstration,” he said when contacted, Wednesday (28/8/2024).

Then, based on the results of the evaluation carried out by his party, he said that the security carried out was in accordance with SOP or in accordance with that regulated in the Chief of Police Regulation (Perkap).

He explained that the use of force in securing demonstrations has been regulated in Regulation of the Chief of Police Number 1 of 2009 concerning the use of force in police actions.

In addition, Regulation of the Chief of Police Number 8 of 2009 also regulates the implementation of human rights principles in carrying out Polri duties.

“The results of our current evaluation show that the ranks have carried out (security) in accordance with applicable SOPs,” he said.

On the other hand, National Police Commission (Kompolnas) member Poengky Indarti saw the opposite. He highlighted the use of tear gas in securing the demonstration.
