New faces, mechanism for preferences and evaluation of the contribution of each candidate – the 3 proposals

“Yes, Bulgaria” gave an ultimatum to its coalition partners from “Continuing the change” and “Democrats for a strong Bulgaria” until September 3 to decide whether to change the order of the lists for October 27.

If the partners respond positively, there will be a new PP-DB coalition agreement. Otherwise, Hristo Ivanov’s people will decide for themselves how to vote for the 51st National Assembly. This is understood from a new resolution of the party.

The date was not chosen by chance – that’s when the MPs’ summer vacation ends.

They are from “Promyanata” and DSB

rejected the idea of ”Yes, Bulgaria” to line up the lists after preliminary internal elections

Hristo Ivanov’s people announced this idea last Sunday. The scheme is complex, but basically the idea is that coalition members and supporters nominate their favorites in a poll.

The people who collected the most votes will be in the leading positions, although the party leaders and popular candidates will have priority.

However, this offer was rejected by the PP and DSB on the grounds that there is not enough time until September 2, when the CEC starts accepting registration documents for the October 27 elections. The deadline for this is September 11.

“Yes, Bulgaria” are inclined to give up the preliminary elections, but still insist on changes in the way the lists are arranged. According to them, they should be more balanced and reflect the size of the parties in the coalition and the votes they attract. In the last elections, the coalition collapsed its electoral result by 313 thousand votes compared to the vote in April 2023. However, the greater outflow was from “Promyanata”, not from DB. However, traditionally more driving positions receive PP. Thus, in the elections on June 9, it turned out that significant figures for DB such as Ivaylo Mirchev and Antoaneta Tsoneva were left out of the parliament.

In the 50th parliament, “Yes, Bulgaria” has eight deputies, DSB – 9, and the remaining 22 in the group are from PP.

Now “Yes, Bulgaria” insists that its coalition partners agree to 3 of its proposals – to attract new persons to the lists, to come up with measures for the full use of the preferential campaigns, but also to evaluate the personal contribution and potential of each candidate.

“Yes, Bulgaria” insist that the logic of party quotas be replaced by new criteria

and to have a selection of candidates for the lists. It should be related to publicly announced reports on their activity, contribution, recognition, etc. to the vote on October 27.

The main goal of the PP-DB coalition was supposed to be “the development of an ambitious strategy for regaining the trust of voters and expanding electoral support, especially with the continued lack of positive data in this regard.”

According to them, the serious renewal of the lists with new persons and rejection of the logic of “party parceling” is based on meritocratic principles.
