(ANSA) – NAPLES, AUGUST 31 – In eight months, from January to August, between Naples and the province, 964 men were accused of stalking and mistreatment of women: in this period of time, the Carabinieri carried out 267 arrests in flagrante delicto and 697 reports at large. On average, 4 cases occurred every day, 120 per month. The data released by the provincial command of the Carabinieri of Naples are worrying, the result of the fight against the sad phenomenon of gender violence that involved four prosecutors’ offices: Naples, Torre Annunziata, Naples North and Nola. Thanks to the law passed in December 2023, a new tool, deferred arrest, has allowed the military to block ten suspects based on evidence (videos, photos, chats and GPS locations) provided within 48 hours by the victims of violence. The law in question represents a further weapon in the hands of law enforcement agencies that rely on the complaint. For this reason, the Carabinieri have created four environments dedicated to listening to victims of gender-based violence, called “Room All for Oneself”, created, with the collaboration of the Soroptimist International Club Naples, in four strategic points of Naples and the Province: in the capital they are located in Capodimonte and in the Stella district; in the province in Caivano and Ercolano. Then there is the “Mobile Angel”, the smart watch connected to the mobile phone on which a dedicated app is installed, Bright Sky, capable of activating a request for intervention with the Carabinieri. The testing of this device, started in 2022, has provided greater security to victims who can exploit its deterrence against aggressors. Gender-based violence also occurs in subtle forms and to combat it, initiatives have been promoted that help victims identify its warning signs: the general command of the Carabinieri provides them with a “violentometer”.
