As we have already written about, the fans are eagerly awaiting the introduction of the Pick Szeged men’s handball team after a new professional staff and six players joined the club in the summer, which also won a preparatory tournament in Kassel, Germany. Today at 17:00 they will play against QHB Eger in the championship match brought forward from the 5th round in the Pick Arena. Before that, however, OTP Bank-Pick Szeged held a press conference on the signing of Jim Gottfridsson.

– Today is a big day in the life of OTP Bank-Pick Szeged, as we can announce the arrival of an excellent player from the summer of 2025, for three years. He is a player whose signing the club can be very proud of. Earlier in the life of Szeged, there were South Slavic and Spanish lines, but starting this year, the Scandinavian line arrived. Jim Gottfridsson will be our fifth Swedish player – announced at the press event organized in the Pick Arena, Ernő Péter Szűcs, president of Pick Handball Zrt.
Head coach Michael Apelgren does not need to introduce the new player from Szeged, as they have been working together for two years as second coach of the Swedish national team.
– Jim is one of the best players in Swedish handball, he has incredible skills. In the course of the matches, his knowledge can swing a team and make it a winner, so I am very happy that we were able to agree with him. I have personally known him from the national team for two years, but anyone who follows handball cannot help but not know him, so today is a wonderful day for our club – said head coach Michael Apelgren in connection with the announcement.

Jim Gottfridsson arrived in Szeged with his family two days ago. The sights of the city have already been discovered, the votive church, the Napfényfürdő Aquapolis and the city center have already been visited. They also experienced the sunshine in Szeged, as well as the height in the tower of the cathedral, which made them a little excited, as it is open space, but the view made up for it.
– The main aspect was that I already know Szeged as an opponent, I wanted to try myself here. Apelgren outlined an attractive project for me, the Champions League Final Four is the goal here. I have been to the weekend in Cologne several times, I won the Champions League with Flensburg, I would like to do the same with Szeged – promised 31-year-old Jim Gottfridsson in his first statement in Szeged, who will still strengthen the German SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the 2024-2025 season . Finally, he noted that he had already played as an opponent in the Pick Arena, where he experienced a wonderful atmosphere, and he can’t wait to experience it as a player in Szeged.
