Speaking at the opening of the 1st International Conference on the Care Economy and Social Protection, which is held under the theme “Care Economy and Social Protection: Pillar of Women’s Empowerment, Job Creation and Family Well-being”, Ms. Fettah considered that the care economy can be a solution for national economic development, in response to Morocco’s choice to accelerate the social state, the demographic transition marked by the aging of the population, and the emergence of new forms of work.
Thus, the minister reviewed the main social projects undertaken by Morocco and the measures associated with them, as well as the results obtained over the years by the government, in partnership with civil society, particularly in the areas of child protection, health, social assistance and care for the elderly.
Several countries have recorded growth in the care economy, mainly associated with the solidarity economy, Ms. Fettah stressed. In this sense, she highlighted Morocco’s potential to create innovative models to achieve the objectives of the New Development Model in connection with the care economy.
In this regard, the Minister considered that it is now possible to develop partnership models between the public and private sectors in order to create employment opportunities in the care economy sector, citing some examples in this area, such as the provision of preschool education for children with special needs and the provision of home care services for the elderly.
Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this international conclave, which will be held on June 25 and 26, is organized by the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Arab League.
This event represents an opportunity for reflection in order to mobilize collective intelligence and build an integrated system of the care economy through the exchange of experiences and knowledge.
The work of the Conference will also enrich the debate around several challenges, namely the identification of economic activities falling within the care economy, the economic empowerment of women, the legal framework relating to paid and unpaid care professions and the roles of social workers.
