- St. Gallen will face, among others, AC Fiorentina and FC Heidenheim in the league phase of the Conference League.
- FC Lugano has matches scheduled against Gent and Legia Warsaw.
- The exact match schedule will be published on Saturday.
For the first time, Switzerland is represented twice in the Conference League. Since Friday afternoon, St. Gallen and Lugano now also know their opponents in the new league phase. The team from Eastern Switzerland has drawn the tougher lot.
From Pot 1, FC St. Gallen was drawn against AC Fiorentina, who will travel to the Kybunpark. Additionally, they will face the Bundesliga debutants FC Heidenheim away. The St. Gallen team will also have to play away against Cercle Brugge and FC Larne in Northern Ireland.
Visiting St. Gallen will be TSC Backa Topola from Serbia and Vitoria Guimaraes. The Portuguese already have experience on Swiss soil this year: in the qualification, they left FC Zurich no chance.
Lugano also against Serbs
The toughest opponent for FC Lugano is likely to be KAA Gent. The Belgians will travel to Thun, where the Ticinesi will host their European cup matches. Lugano will also have “home games” against HJK Helsinki and the Cypriot club Pafos.
The away trips for Lugano will all lead eastward. In the match against Legia Warsaw, they will encounter Swiss Marco Burch among others. The other opponents will be Mlada Boleslav from the Czech Republic and Backa Topola, who will also play against FC St. Gallen.
Schedule still unknown
On Saturday, the matches will be precisely scheduled, determining the order of play. The league phase in the Conference League lasts from October 3 to December 19. It will then be clear which teams will continue their European adventure in 2025 and which 12 clubs’ European cup season is over.
