The Four Regions Security Directorate announced this Friday morning that the Dams Administration had partially emptied the Wadi Al-Majinin Dam, due to heavy rainfall in the mountainous areas.
The Dams Department said this was a precautionary measure in light of the National Center of Meteorology’s forecast of heavy rains, which could cause the water level in the dam to rise.
In the post, the administration warned citizens living near valleys to take precautions, be careful, pay attention and avoid crossing those valleys.
In the same context, the state of readiness was raised in the cities and regions of Souk El Khamis, Imsihel, El Sayeh, Wadi El Rabie, El Hadaba, Abu Salim, Mizran Street, and all the way to the beach on Souk El Thulatha Island in Tripoli.
The Ambulance and Emergency Department also announced on Thursday night that it had directed ambulances in the municipalities of Greater Tripoli to be stationed along the valley and next to security patrols in anticipation of any emergency.
It is noteworthy that the Wadi Al-Majinin Dam is a satri dam located in Wadi Al-Majinin, 64 kilometers south of Tripoli in the Western Mountains. The construction of the dam was completed in 1972 and the main purpose of its construction was to provide water for agricultural operations in the region and also to control floods.
#Note: The Director of the Dams Department explained that the valves of the Wadi Al-Majinin Dam were partially opened after the lake stabilized in order to empty part of the water in order to preserve the natural stock, as the flow in the valley course is a result of the partial opening of the valves, and this was done in coordination with the security authorities. Everyone must avoid low-lying areas and stay away from valleys and areas near waterways. #Ministry_of_Water_Resources #Media_and_Communication_Office #Libya
