New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali Ayurveda is once again in legal trouble. Serious allegations have been leveled against Patanjali’s herbal tooth powder ‘Divya Manjan’. In a petition filed in the Delhi High Court, it has been alleged that the Divya Manjan which Patanjali is selling as vegetarian and ayurvedic is made from fish extract. The company has been promoting it like this for a long time and people are using it. The petitioner has filed a petition against Patanjali citing a research. After all, what is that fish extract due to which this ruckus has been created, let us tell you.

Petition filed in Delhi High Court

The petition filed by advocate Yatin Sharma in the Delhi High Court alleges that Patanjali’s Divya Manjan has a green dot on its packaging, indicating vegetarian products. But a look at the list of ingredients shows that the tooth powder contains Sepia officinalis. The petitioner says this is misleading to customers and is a violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Sharma said that this discovery is extremely disturbing for him and his family, as their religious beliefs do not allow the consumption of non-vegetarian items.

What is Sepia Officinalis?

Sepia Officinalis is a marine creature, commonly known as cuttlefish. Its extract is extracted from the ink sac of cuttlefish. It is used in homeopathic medicines and some other types of indigenous medicines, especially in cases related to skin and body balance. Cuttlefish extract is usually used for medicinal purposes, not in toothpaste.

Notice issued to Patanjali’s Divya Pharmacy

Yatin Sharma, who filed a petition in the court, has alleged that Baba Ramdev had admitted in a YouTube video that a product made from marine life is used in ‘Divya Manjan’. The petition has sought judicial intervention in the matter of alleged wrong labeling of the product. Also, compensation has been demanded for the mental agony caused by inadvertently consuming a non-vegetarian product. Hearing the petition, the Delhi High Court has issued notice to Patanjali Ayurveda, Baba Ramdev, the Central Government and Patanjali’s Divya Pharmacy, which manufactures the product. The next hearing of the case will be on November 28.
