Paris: India’s star athlete Nishad Kumar won the silver medal in the men’s high jump event at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Sunday, September 1. Nishad won his second and India’s seventh medal in the high jump category in Paralympic history. Nishad Kumar finished second with a jump of 2.04m, while India’s other participant Ram Pal equalled his personal best of 1.95m to finish seventh. Three-time Paralympic gold medallist Roderick Townsend-Roberts of the United States won the gold medal with a jump of 2.08m. Both Nishad and Roderick were the only two athletes to surpass 2.00m. Both athletes crashed the bar while chasing 2.08m in their first attempt. But the American star successfully cleared it in his second attempt. Nishad also performed his best in 2024. But he crashed the bar in the second attempt as well, due to which he had to settle for the silver medal.

Preeti Pal also won bronze medal
Shortly before Nishad Kumar won the silver medal, Preeti Pal also won a medal for India. Preeti Pal won the bronze medal in the T35 200m. This was Preeti Pal’s second bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics. Earlier, Preeti Pal had won the bronze medal in the women’s T35 100m competition with a personal best time of 14.21 seconds. At the same time, Nitesh Kumar (SL3) and Suhas Yathiraj (SL4) have confirmed two more medals for India in para badminton.
