On Saturday, a colorful holiday was held on Orekhovaya Hill – Day of Family and Green Thinking. Various master classes, educational lectures, active games, communication with animals, an anime festival, a prize draw, a concert and attractions were organized for the guests of the event. All this was free.

On a cloudy Saturday morning on the way to Orekhovaya Gorka one could meet a large number of people of different ages, many were walking with families. Music and loud comments from the presenter could be heard from afar. At the entrance to the park there is a fair of handmade goods – homemade toys, dishes, handmade soap and much more. There was a delicious smell of food in the air; holiday guests were offered a large selection of dishes at food outlets. True, it was advisable to bring dishes from home, since disposable plates and cutlery were not used at the event dedicated to preserving the environment. For children, there were huge trampolines in the park, as well as two very popular things – a climbing wall and a “box tower” attraction.

“Knoc na Cno is a favorite place with the people of the city; about two thousand people visit it every day. Before the start of the school year, we traditionally have an event here for the children and parents to get to know our partners and see sports opportunities and intellectual development. This year the festival is dedicated to the environment and everything related to recycling waste, plastic, and climate change, so we organized a large number of performances and master classes on this topic. An anime festival was prepared for young people, trampolines, face painting for children, and thematic master classes for adults. Our “feature” is a climbing wall and attraction – a “tower of boxes”. Guests love them very much. Usually more than three thousand people come to the event,” Sofya Khomyakova, head of SA Narva Linna Arendus, told Narva Gazeta journalist.

During the first half of the day, experts from the fields of recycling and environmental protection spoke on stage. They told how to save nature from pollution, what can be done from things that a person has to throw away, and how to dispose of different groups of waste correctly.
At the same time, guests could interact with animals performing at the BEST dog training school KoerteKool, ride horses, and see rabbits, goats and other small animals from the Rootsikalmu Ratsatalu farm. For children and adults, master classes were held on painting shopkeepers, growing plants, weaving baskets, and as part of the “Green Workshop” project, they could repair their own things.

“We try to extend the life of things and reduce the generation of waste accordingly. People come to us with household items and we can fix them. For example, today at Family Day a woman came with an antique lamp that needed repair. The lamp was very unusual – in the shape of a fish, it was bought in Germany in the 50s of the last century. Of course, she has seen life. We replaced the contacts on the wires, attached an eye to the fish, and gave recommendations on the best light bulbs to buy. Thanks to this, the ancient lamp will survive,” say project organizers Artem and Elena Aminchikova.

At the other end of the park there are fire and ambulance vehicles, zones from the voluntary sea and ice rescue service, Narva Hospital, the Central Library and other large organizations.
In the afternoon, despite the rain and cool weather, a creative program began for the guests. Representatives of Narva Kyokushin Club Torna-Do, cultural center Rugodiv, vocal studios “VIA Magic Land” and “Nadezhda”, singing club “Echo”, Narva House of People, Trio Ranna, DJ Bassofsky performed on stage. Spectators in raincoats and under umbrellas sat on benches in front of the stage, actively applauding the artists, some of them were singing and even dancing near the stage. Young people in unusual costumes took part in the anime festival.

“We are on holiday all day. It’s a pity that we weren’t lucky with the weather, but overall it wasn’t a hindrance. The most impressive were the ambulances and the fire service. During the day our children performed on stage, and in the evening I really enjoyed the concert,” festival visitor Evgeniya told Narvskaya Gazeta.

This is how the last day of summer passed around Orekhovaya Hill. The holiday allowed us to spend time in nature, participate in educational activities and enjoy entertainment with the whole family.
