The head of the Ministry of Tourism, Morena Valdez, highlighted that economic activity through tourism is growing in El Salvador. “As of July this year, we received 2.3 million visitors and that means more than $2,223 million in foreign currency earnings, it is a record figure that we are having. If we are working hard, the great challenge, now that we are attracting more visitors, is how to strengthen the tourism sector so that a virtuous circle is generated,” explained Valdez.

These figures represent an increase of 22% compared to 2023 and 56% of the goal for this year of four million visitors has been met, which has a direct impact on economic revitalization, infrastructure modernization, job creation and the development of tourist locations with great potential.

In light of this, the head of the Ministry of Tourism stressed that investment in tourist areas does not stop. In recent weeks, more shops and businesses have been opened in the coastal area of La Libertad and more investment will arrive in the near future, which will boost the local economy and continue to attract more national and international tourism.

Likewise, security strategies have made investors more confident in the country, positioning the country as a benchmark for tourism growth in the region in recent years. The Government of El Salvador continues to invest in public tourism infrastructure, such as what is being developed in Surf City II in the eastern part of the country, with an investment of $106 million, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

“The Historic Center of San Salvador is the second most visited tourist site,” added the official. The first place is occupied by the Puerto de La Libertad Tourist Complex. The development hubs promoted by the Government of President Bukele reaffirm that the tourism sector is the pillar of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
