Where is Mats Hummels moving to? This question has been on the minds of German football fans for weeks. Now another option is in question.

Mats Hummels has been looking for a new club since his contract with Borussia Dortmund ended at the end of June. The long-time German international has been linked with numerous clubs since then, but there has never been any news of a deal being signed.

This also seems to be the case with AS Roma. At least that is what Italian transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio claims. According to him, the club is no longer convinced of the planned transfer. This is why Hummels is said to have become skeptical about a job in the “eternal city”. However, there is no final decision.

The newspaper “Corriere dello Sport” had previously reported that Hummels was about to sign a one-year contract with Roma. A net salary of 2.5 million euros was being discussed.

If Di Marzio’s information is correct, Roma could join an illustrious list of European clubs that Hummels ultimately did not move to despite numerous rumours. These include RCD Mallorca, Real Sociedad, the Milan clubs AC and Inter, Juventus Turin, FC Bologna, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United.

Hummels himself can point to numerous impressive successes in his CV. He won the German championship six times with Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich and the DFB Cup three times. In total, he played 442 Bundesliga games, in which the defender scored 33 goals.

Hummels also played 78 times for the German national team, scoring five goals. The highlight of his career in the German Football Association (DFB) jersey was winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
