(ANSA) – ROME, 03 SEPTEMBER – The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, left yesterday evening for the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, which he will visit today. The same senior official announced this on X. “It has been two years since we established Iaea org Support and Assistance Mission to Zaporizhzhia (Isamz) to help ensure nuclear safety at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. – the message reads -. I am headed to the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia to continue our assistance and help prevent a nuclear accident”. During his visit to Kurchatov to inspect the Russian nuclear power plant in Kursk on 27 August, Grossi had announced that he would travel to Ukraine before returning to Russia. The IAEA head will discuss the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. At the end of August Grossi had stated that “the nuclear safety situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant remains extremely difficult”. (ANSA).
