Mayra Salazar was sentenced to 15 months in the Metastasis Case due to her cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office, through an abbreviated procedure.

From that time, seven months of prison time have been served, meaning that the woman who worked in Leando Norero’s criminal structure would be released in nine months, which will allow her to regain her freedom in early 2025.

On July 24, Mayra Salazar was sentenced for her work in the plot of narco-corruption of Leandro Noreroknown as The Boss.

Salazar is the ninth of 10 people who have requested to have an abbreviated procedure in exchange for cooperate with the Justice system.

In total, Salazar, who from the Provincial Court of Guayas recruited judges to accept bribes and thus favor Norero and his family, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, would have 15 months in prison, the same from which the seven months he has served in preventive detention must be subtracted. That is, he would be in jail for eight more months, with which he would be able to get out of prison in March 2025. However, his defense attorney Christian Marin pointed out that on February 14, Valentine’s Day, the 35-year-old journalist is reportedly free.

The judge noted that the information and elements provided by Salazar have been significant, not only in this case but in others (Purga).

In addition to the prison sentence, Salazar must pay $17,340 in material reparations and, as non-material reparations, he must publicly apologize.

Salazar’s lawyer requested that she be sent back to the women’s prison in Quito, but the judge said that that is not his jurisdiction, so she will be transferred to the Cotopaxi prison. Mayra Salazar’s defense will request before a penitentiary judge that she be released from Cotopaxi because “she is not safe in that prison,” said lawyer Marín, who preferred not to refer to the threats against the defendant by the Metastasis case.

Mayra Salazar says that a request from artist Gloria Trevi linked her to organized crime

Before receiving her sentence on March 28, 2024, Salazar said that it was necessary to “purge the justice system” and accepted that she had made mistakes, but that she was willing to cooperate. This is how she indicated how her approach was with drug lords such as Jorge Luis Zambranoalias Scratch; y Leandro Noreroaka the Pattern.

Salazar, in addition to being a communicator and university professor, indicated that she performed concerts. In 2017, while working at TC, she organized the Versu World Tour, where Mexican singers Alejandra Guzmán and Gloria Trevi performed, the latter had requested to enter a women’s prison during her stay in Guayaquil. Salazar had made the request, but they denied. However, Salazar later went to a women’s prison (without Trevi) and there he met Samara Rivera Jumps, wife of alias Rasquiña, leader of Los Choneros. “That day my life changed. My life took a different direction,” Salazar said.

After years of friendship with Rivera and the rasquiña lawyer, Xavier Novillo, alias Novita, Salazar arrives at the Provincial Court of Guayas and Novillo tells him that his operator in that place is alias Barbón Chiquito, who charged a commission for scheduling cases by order of the judge Fabiola Gallardoprosecuted in the Purga case.

Salazar said he met Leandro Norero in 2021, when alias Novitaasked him to help him by handling public relations for one of his businesses. From there – says the defendant – she began a friendship with the drug trafficker who, at that time, the justice system considered dead.
