British Lawyers Challenge ICC Over Netanyahu Charges

by time news

British lawyers are protesting against the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, “guilty” of having requested the arrest for war crimes and crimes against humanity against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The organization “UK Lawyers for Israel” has announced that it will proceed before the competent disciplinary bodies to report the “professional misconduct” of Khan, who is a British lawyer subject to the rules of the “Bar Standards Board”. In the event of professional misconduct being recognized, the lawyer subjected to the proceedings risks being struck off the roll.
In recent days, UKLFI has formalized its grievances, sending a 25-page letter to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. The document challenges point by point the charges leveled against Netanyahu and Gallant. The British lawyers, initiators of the initiative against Khan, also provide detailed evidence that indicates the falsity of the charges against the Israeli prime minister and his defense minister.
The ICC Prosecutor’s response was not long in coming. Khan said he had acted “independently and impartially” to bring accountability for crimes committed in the Gaza Strip. “The Office of the ICC Prosecutor – reads a statement – emphasizes that it will not be improperly influenced by any form of threat or harassment in independently and impartially pursuing accountability under the Rome Statute.”
