Athlete A, who was identified as a victim of figure skater Lee Hae-in (19), who received a severe disciplinary action from the Korea Skating Union on charges of sexually harassing a junior, requested self-restraint, saying that she was receiving excessive criticism and threats based on the reverse.

Attorney Son Won-woo of law firm Weon, who is representing Player A, stated in a press release on the 3rd, “Since the announcement of the retrial results for Lee Hae-in and Player A, indiscriminate criticism and threats have been made toward Player A based on false speculation.” He added, “This is clearly a criminal act. We will take appropriate legal action against those who maliciously spread and reproduce false information.”

Lee Hae-in was reported to the Korea Skating Union’s Sports Fair Play Committee after being caught drinking alcohol in her lodgings during the national figure skating team training camp in Varese, Italy in May.

During the Skating Union’s investigation, it was revealed that in addition to drinking, he had committed sexual acts with a minor junior athlete A.

The Skating Union conducted its own investigation and imposed a heavy disciplinary action of a three-year suspension on Lee Hae-in. A minor athlete A was reprimanded for visiting the dormitory of an athlete of the opposite sex, which was judged to be a violation of the intensive training regulations.

Lee Hae-in claimed that she was dating Player A and that the sexual harassment allegations were not true. She also requested a retrial from the Korea Sports Council’s Sports Fair Play Committee, claiming that the Skating Union failed to recognize that they were dating and imposed excessive punishment.

However, the Sports Fair Play Committee of the Korea Sports Council rejected Lee Hae-in’s request for a retrial.

Regarding this, Player A’s side explained, “During the investigation by the Skating Union on June 5, I stated, ‘I do not think that Lee Hae-in’s actions constitute a criminal act.’ During the investigation process and at the Sports Fair Play Committee, I never said that I wanted Lee Hae-in punished,” and “I never said that I felt ashamed of Lee Hae-in’s actions.”

He continued, “During the retrial process of the Sports Council, I conveyed my intention to write a petition to the lawyer of athlete A, but he rejected it. In a situation where time was limited, athlete A had to release a statement, but it contains some content that could be misunderstood. I regret that.”

Player A’s side emphasized, “Currently, Player A and his family are being subjected to excessive criticism and threats based on false rumors and speculations, such as ‘Player A reported Lee Hae-in.’ We ask that you refrain from spreading and amplifying false information.”
