People from different parts of the country are talking about reforms after the formation of the interim government. When people of different classes and professions are vocal in demanding reforms, what are the people of this field thinking about the development of the film industry.

Bengali film legend Ashraf Uddin Ahmed urged to work free from party influence to bring back the golden past in Ujjwal films. He said, ‘It is not right to conduct party activities in FDC. When the party is in power, the opposition is cornered. As a person who likes the ideals of the party, but why will injustice be done by party influence in the film? Everyone in FDC should work together for the film.’

Film producer and president of Bangladesh Film Club Shamsul Alam said, ‘A film producer needs to work on how to get back his invested money. From the production of the movie to the release, the issues have to be seen. He will re-invest money in movies once he gets back the invested money. We need to change the system. The producer has to save the film by coordinating with everyone. If the producer lives, the film will live.’

Shaheen Suman, Secretary General of the Film Directors Association said, ‘Reformation has nothing to do with political reform in the FDC. Here everything goes in order. The development of films requires technical development. It has been asked numerous times to reduce the floor rent, lights, camera, editing-dubbing rent. This has to be done. If these reforms are made, I hope that shooting will return to FDC.’

Filmmaker Badiul Alam Khokon said, ‘FDC needs to be completely reformed. It should be redecorated. Not just one or two subjects, all subjects have to be changed. We will sit with everyone from producers, directors, artists, journalists involved in FDC – to know what we need to reform. We will meet with advisors to discuss what is needed to shape the FDC. I am taking some time for this.’

He also said, ‘A lot of things have happened in films for a long time that have room for criticism. I don’t want to look at them anymore. Everyone wants to take the film forward in new Bangladesh.

‘We have seen that talent has not been properly developed in films. Many incompetents have taken many benefits with political identity. There are criticisms about film grants, awards, and the effect of incompetence has also been seen in film empowerment. As a result, the working environment here has been spoiled. Harmony is broken. The film’s image to the audience is in crisis. We are going to focus on them. We want the meritorious not to be deprived, the incompetent not to advance in any quota. No one should be disrespected by anyone. It is our aim to ensure that we remain united as film people, no matter how different our views, religion, caste may be.’ Adds this creator.

Filmmaker Simon Tariq said, ‘There is nothing in FDC now, I want reforms. There are some cameras, there is an editing panel, there is a dubbing floor, the light that is there will not work with the light. If you want to return to the shooting in FDC, you will have to pay the rent for everything. No party will come to shoot until it is brought back to the previous place. We have said this repeatedly. I have also told the new MD – you return to the previous rent. I will start shooting ten movies together.’
