The decision is in the hands of the Council of State, which is preparing its decision.
In the coming days, the Council of State will collect the final arguments and evidence in a process that could leave the political party ‘Soy Porque Somos’, led by Vice President Francia Márquez, without its legal status. This decision, which is in the early sentencing stage, has generated great expectations in the political sphere, as it could have significant implications for Márquez’s political structure and his future in Colombian politics.
The process arose because the vice president’s party was not included in a coalition list between the Polo Democrático Alternativo and other political parties. This fact resulted in ‘Soy Porque Somos’ not having candidates for Congress when the registration of the lists was modified, which generated doubts about the legitimacy of the party in the electoral context. According to the document presented by the plaintiff, it is emphasized that “Soy Porque Somos was not part of the new coalition agreement, signed between the Polo Democrático Alternativo, Unión Patriótica and Colombia Humana parties, nor did it have candidates at the time of the registration modification.”

Would not meet the requirements
One of the key players in this case is Congresswoman Dorina Hernández, who was elected with the support of the Polo Democrático. Hernández requested legal status for the vice president’s party, arguing both her election and that of Francia Márquez as grounds for the request. However, this move has been the subject of controversy, as it is questioned whether the party really meets the legal requirements to maintain its legal status.
In addition, Márquez’s party has faced other challenges, such as the lack of signatures necessary to register the vice president as a presidential candidate. The National Electoral Council (CNE) also rejected the registration of the movement’s logo and symbol, adding an additional layer of complexity to the party’s situation. According to the process document, “The movement failed to collect the required signatures of support as a significant group of citizens to register Ms. Márquez Mina as a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic and the CNE denied the registration of its logo-symbol for this electoral purpose.”
The decision of the Council of State in this case is eagerly awaited, as it will determine whether the party ‘Soy Porque Somos’ will be able to continue operating with legal status or whether, on the contrary, it will be left without this support, which would put the political aspirations of Francia Márquez and her movement in Colombia in jeopardy.
