5 deaths due to ‘mysterious fever’ in Araria, Bihar, brain fever suspected, medical team camping

Araria: Five people, including three children, have died in the last three days due to ‘mysterious fever’ in Raniganj village of Araria district of Bihar. Although the relatives of the deceased have claimed that their children died due to acute encephalitis syndrome (brain fever), the district administration said that medical experts are trying to find out the real cause of death. Brain fever is also known as ‘Chamki Bukhar’ locally. According to officials, the deceased have been identified as Raunak Kumar (4), Ankush Kumar (2 months) and Gauri Kumar (7). Apart from these, two more people have died.

There has been a dance of death in the village for the last three days

Raunak Kumar died on Saturday, while Ankush Kumar died on Sunday and Gauri Kumar on Monday. Villagers claimed that several children suffering from the ‘mysterious fever’ have been admitted to the nearby government hospital.

Symptoms like cough, cold and pneumonia

Araria District Magistrate (DM) Inayat Khan said, “Three children have died in Raniganj village in the last three days…Family members have said that the children were suffering from cough, cold and pneumonia-like symptoms. A team of medical experts has been sent to the village to analyse the situation and find other patients suffering from cough, cold and pneumonia-like symptoms.” He said the civil surgeon is monitoring the situation.

Araria’s civil surgeon Dr KK Kashyap went to the village with a team of doctors. He said that symptoms like cough, cold and pneumonia have appeared. Five people including three children have died. Some people are also admitted in nearby hospitals. The team of doctors is monitoring the situation.

Three children are still hospitalised

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate said, ‘The exact cause of death of the children is not known as the family members have already cremated them. Three more children from the village are suffering from pneumonia-like symptoms, who have been admitted to the government hospital. Doctors are constantly monitoring their condition. We are keeping a close watch on the situation and the cause of death of the children will be known only after the report of medical experts comes.’
