This morning, Friedrich Merz and Olaf Scholz met in the Chancellery. The CDU leader is said to have made another offer to the Chancellor regarding refugee policy.

According to party sources, CDU leader Friedrich Merz renewed his offer of cooperation on the issues of deportation and immigration restrictions at a meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). According to consistent information from Union sources, t-online and the German Press Agency, Scholz asked for time to think about it.

Merz is said to have offered the Chancellor to discuss the issue further in a small group. It was initially unclear whether the meeting, which was supposed to discuss the consequences of the fatal knife attack in Solingen, had produced any concrete results.

After the consultations with Scholz, Merz informed the Christian Democrats’ executive committee about the conversation, which lasted around 70 minutes, in a conference call. Merz would like to make a public statement about the meeting with Scholz at 3 p.m. in Berlin.
