The president of the Professional Football League of Ecuador, Miguel Ángel Loor, gave details of the contract he has with the operator GolTV, for the transmission rights of Ecuadorian football.

Through X (Twitter), Loor explained: “The TV rights contract with GolTV has been active since 2018. Until 2023, the values have been as follows:

  • 2018: $25,000,000 paid 100%
  • 2019: $26,250,000 paid 100%
  • 2020: $27,562,600 paid 100%
  • 2021: $28,940,625 paid 100%
  • 2022: $30,387,656 paid 100%
  • 2023: $31,907,039 paid 75%
  • Total: $145,047,820 paid (until 2023) 96%

Goltv was making periodic payments, paying month by month, until the March 2024 payment, which is 16 days late. Here it is important to clarify that saying “Goltv has not paid for 6 months” is not the same as saying “Goltv owes 6 months”.

Now, looking at the present and future: the turnover for 2024 will be $33,502,391. While it is true that payments have been received this year during January and February, these correspond to August and September 2023; we still do not know what the current business model holds for 2024.

Many “contrarians” have been saying that it is an unaffordable contract (I do not agree) and that we should be paid less (I do not agree either). In my opinion, we have to fight to be paid the same or more. How? Maybe we would have to change the business model. We will see. Falling into the destabilizing discourse in order to “overthrow” everything is not from those who want a solution but from those who want conflict in order to fish in troubled waters.

In the first days of next May of this year, the date that we have proposed with the clubs as a limit, we will have a meeting. Who will decide? The clubs. We as a league will present alternatives and possible solutions. That is, solutions, not problems. In the meantime, let us continue working, fighting against piracy and enjoying our league that is hot.”
