Carlos Rabascall Salazar will be the Democratic Left’s presidential candidate for the general elections in February 2025. Rabascall, who will join the party this Saturday, July 27, 2024, will be officially presented at a special event.
About to turn 64, Rabascall is a communicator, commercial engineer and businessman with significant political experience. In 2021, he ran as vice president on Andrés Arauz’s presidential ticket for the Frente Unión por la Esperanza (UNES), a movement associated with Correísmo, which competed against Guillermo Lasso of the CREO movement.
The Democratic Left is looking for an internal candidate, and Rabascall will join the party to meet this requirement. Also participating in the internal race is Paúl Desamblanc, current Andean parliamentarian.
Although the final decision on the ID presidential candidate will be made on Saturday, internal sources indicate that Rabascall has strong support within the party. “It is very likely that Rabascall will be elected, given the majority support he receives,” said a source close to the process.
