by time news

Mathieu Valbuena scored a goal on his debut with Kallithea in the 2-2 draw against Panathinaikos, becoming the oldest football player to find the net in the history of the Alpha National/Super League.

The Frenchman managed to break a record that had stood since April 1997, knocking Tasos Mitropoulos off the top of the list after 27 years and 133 days.

Valbuena scored at the age of 39 years and 339 days, surpassing the Greek midfielder who had put the Veria team ahead in their match against AEK on April 21, 1997, when he was 39 years and 241 days old.

Mathieu Valbuena is also at the top of the list of the oldest players to score in the Alpha National/Super League and for Olympiakos, as the goal he scored on April 12, 2023, against AEK at Karaiskakis Stadium earned him this record.

He was 38 years and 138 days old, leaving Ariél Ibagasa in second place, who scored during the Xanthi – Olympiakos 0-2 match at the age of 37 years and 90 days.

Of course, with this goal, he also becomes the oldest player in the history of Kallithea to score in the top category, leaving behind Alexis Alexandris, who had scored in Kallithea’s 3-1 victory against Aris on May 25, 2005. At that time, the Greek forward was 36 years and 216 days old.
