Mathieu Valbuena Makes History: Oldest Scorer in Greek Super League Debuts with a Goal

by time news

Mathieu Valbuena scored a goal in his debut with Kallithea in a 2-2 draw against Panathinaikos and became the oldest player to find the net in the history of the Super League/Alpha Ethniki.

The Frenchman managed to break a record that had stood since April 1997 and knocked Tasos Mitropoulos from the top of that list after 27 years and 133 days.

Valbuena scored at the age of 39 years and 339 days, surpassing the Greek midfielder who had given the Veria team the lead in their match against AEK on April 21, 1997, when he was 39 years and 241 days old.

Mathieu Valbuena is also at the top of the list of the oldest players to score in the Super League/Alpha Ethniki for Olympiakos, as the goal he scored on April 12, 2023, against AEK at the Karaiskakis Stadium earned him that record.

He was 38 years and 138 days old, placing second was Ariel Ibagasa, who scored during the Xanthi – Olympiakos match (0-2) at the age of 37 years and 90 days.

Of course, with this goal, he also becomes the oldest in the history of Kallithea to score in the top division, leaving behind Alexis Alexandris, who had scored in Kallithea’s 3-1 victory against Aris on May 25, 2005. At that time, the Greek forward was 36 years and 216 days old.
