Javier Mileypresident of Argentinaimplements stricter measures in the prisons of the town of Santa Fethis being one with the highest crime rates in the nation of Rio de la Plata.

During the first months of President Milei’s term, there have been controversies regarding his reforms and his far-right ideology, however, Argentine citizens themselves approve of tougher measures being imposed on prisoners.

For a long time, Argentine prisons have had problems with corruption, drug dealing and extortion, however, with the recent arrival of Milei to power, many things have changed and prisoners have even been imposed punishments such as isolation and at the same time they have been prohibited from using cell phones and televisions.

In theory, prisoners should not have the right to use a mobile phone, and precisely with Milei’s measures, their use has been withdrawn since the medium was used to commit crimes outside of prison.

On the other hand, prisoners have been forced to wear an orange uniform, which they did not respect before the change. In the same way, all civilian clothing has been removed and any prisoner who does not respect the rules will be taken to the “dungeon”the name given to extreme isolation within prison.

The measures have been compared with those of the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukelesince he uses these methods to punish criminals with a heavy hand. Argentine citizens applaud President Milei’s actions, while others agree that human rights are being violated.
