The deceased was born in 1931. July 3 In Kaunas, in the family of servants Pranas and Viktorijas Vitoniis. 1938-39 she studied at Kaunas primary school. In 1938, after the death of his father and from 1940 after the family moved to Vilnius, she continued her education at the Salomeja Neris Girls’ High School.
After graduating, IRVitonytė in 1949. entered the English language and literature specialty of Vilnius University’s Faculty of History and Philology, which he graduated with honors. 1954-57 studied at the post-graduate course of A. Ždanov State University in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) and was assigned to the Department of English at the Vilnius State Pedagogical Institute. for the position of teacher.
in 1965 she was selected for the position of docent of this department through a competition, in 1979. for the position of department head-associate professor, 1967-1974. elected as the dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of VVPI, 1991-95. English and methodology for the position of head of the department. Thanks to her, English language programs were carried out. reforms and restructuring of teacher training, the Lithuanian Association of English Language Teachers and Lecturers (LAKMIDA) was established, relations with Scandinavian, Great Britain and the USA higher schools and other educational and cultural organizations were greatly strengthened. The participation of the institute’s teachers in solving the problems of public education, both in Lithuania and on a wider scale, has intensified.
I. Genienė in 1965 February 11 At A. Zhdanov State University in Leningrad (now Petersburg) he defended his candidate’s (nostrified in 1992 – doctoral) thesis in philological humanities: “Prepositional attributive compounds (pay-as-you-go (system), mud-and-straw (fishing village) , off-the-record (briefing) in modern English”.
Even at the age of 15, I. Genienė was elected as the president of LAKMIDA uniting over 300 members. She led the English philology department. master’s theses, prepared and read interesting presentations at international and Lithuanian conferences organized by the association, led the cross-border Vilnius-Erfurt project: “Under Eastern/Western Eyes. Interfaces of Cultural Exchange – Internet Teaching Database”.
On the occasion of his 50th anniversary, he published the monograph “Literature, Language, Criticism: Interface Studies” (1981, VVPI). in 1983 she compiled a publication for secondary schools “Pages from American Literature” (Reading for classes X-XI / Interesting pages of American literature), gave presentations on language lexicology and stylistics in Great Britain, Sweden, Latvia, the USA.
When communicating with students and work colleagues, teachers, I. Genienė was distinguished by a subtle, simply British sense of humor and was an indispensable simultaneous translation specialist at international (and not only philological) conferences.
